Apply for Recruiter Account

Recruiters are organizations that want to hire new economists (i.e. job candidates who recently obtained or will obtain their Phd degrees). Recruiters can use Econ Job Market (EJM) to post job advertisements for free. (Job candidates responding to job ads posted on EJM, should click here to apply for their own free accounts).

For security purposes, recruiters must apply for an account on EJM so we can verify their authenticity before we allow them to login to EJM to post job ads. An application requires information on a few items such as the address and url to the recruiter's web page, and names of key members in the organization that we use to verify the recruiter's identity. We also require the organization to specify the name and email address of an administrator to manage the organization's EJM account. Once we have verified that your organization is authentic and legitimate, a unique recruiter ID code will be created along with a login ID and password for the specified administrator, who will be emailed the initial login information.

The administrator will then be able to create several additional accounts associated with this recruiter, and any of these individuals will be able to login to EJM to post job ads from this recruiter. Recruiters can also use EJM's search tools to look at candidates, view applications that have been submitted in response to the recruiter's ads, and retrieve complete electronic files on all applicants. An applicant's file includes the applicant's vita, research papers, and letters of recommendation. This information is transferred back to the recruiter in electronic format --- generally as Adobe PDF files that are included in a zip archive with separate subdirectories for each applicant.

Recruiters will also be able to sign up to use (optional) back end systems that can connect to EJM and retreive this information in a variety of database formats to enable the recruiter to conduct further analysis of applicant data either offline or on different servers that are not connected to the EJM site. The back end systems are provided by third parties, and there may be fees to use these services. We will provide links to providers of different back end systems shortly.

The EconJobMarket.org Organization and System

EconJobMarket.org is a nonprofit organization that seeks to reduce the costs of information flow in the economics job market by providing a secure central repository for the files of job-market candidates (including papers, reference letters, and other materials) accessed on line.

EconJobMarket.org is scheduled to launch in mid-September 2007, for use by some recruiting organizations, candidates, and references in the 2007-2008 job-market season. The system will be free to all participants initially and later require only modest fees from participating organizations that are just sufficient to cover operating costs.

EJM Founders: Martin Osborne (University of Toronto), John Rust (University of Maryland), and Joel Watson (University of California, San Diego).

Advisory Board: Ted Bergstrom (University of California, Santa Barbara), David Levine (Washington University in St. Louis), R. Preston McAfee (California Institute of Technology), and Martin Osborne (University of Toronto).
