Info for Recruiters

Please read the "system overview" to learn how the EconJobMarket.org system works in general. Recruiters are the economics departments, business schools, government agencies, private firms, and other organizations that are searching for suitably qualified job candidates. Properly validated recruiters are allowed to post job advertisements at EconJobMarket.org. These recruiters will then have access to the site's database to view and download the files of candidates who have applied in response to their individual advertisements. EconJobMarket.org provides a basic interface that allows recruiters to view, search, and download information on candidates. Additional functionality, such as software that facilitates evaluating, ranking, commenting, selecting, and scheduling candidates for interviews based on the information obtained from the econjobmarket.org, must be acquired from third party vendors.

The EJM system is free to all users during the 2007-8 job-market season. In future years, a small fee will be required of recruiters to cover operating costs.

Here are basic instructions for recruiters (recruitment directors):

1. If you are interested in using the EconJobMarket.org system to receive applications from candidates, you should be sure to specify this in any advertisements that you place elsewhere. The EJM founders recommend that you do the following. Suppose that you will submit an advertisement to the JOE. In this advertisement, direct candidates to your organization's web site for information on how and when to apply. On your web site, you can provide more details about your open positions; also note that you will begin accepting applications on, say, October 15. Before October 15, add a note on your web site that directs candidates to the EconJobMarket.org web site, where they can apply to your advertisement.

2. Establish an account on the EconJobMarket.org system. When registering, you will give basic information about your organization and your contact information.

3. After you register, the EJM officers will verify your organization's authenticity. Once authentication takes place, you will be able to log onto the system to create advertisements and receive applications.

4. Create advertisements for each of your distinct types of open positions (for example, one for a junior search, another for an associate-professor search, etc.). To create an advertisement, simply select this link on the EJM web site when you are logged on. When you create an advertisement, you must enter information about the position and also specify information that you require from applicants. You have flexibility to specify whether, for example, letters of recommendation, papers, and other materials are required.

5. Once candidates have begun submitting applications, you will be able to download (in various formats) the candidates' packets (including recommendation letters, if present). As you wish, you can then circulate the files to your internal reviewers, using your own or some third-party software to facilitate the reviewing process.
