Economics 611: Mathematics for Economists

Instructors:
Professor John Rust (first half of Econ 611)
Professor Axel Z. Anderson (second half of Econ 611)

Course Description:

Econ 611 is a graduate course to help students learn how to use math tools to solve economic problems. "Math tools" are interpreted broadly and include the use of computer and computer algorithms to solve economic problems that cannot be solved fully in "closed-form" --- to obtain approximate solutions to problems where we cannot find any "analytical solutions". This course will try to explore problems of interest in both graduate micro and macro with a particular emphasis on solving optimization and dynamic programming problems.
